A group of environmental NGOs have strongly condemned the vandal attacks on the cars of three BirdLife volunteers at Buskett last Sunday.

They are Din l-Art Ħelwa, Flimkien Għal Ambjent Aħjar, Friends of the Earth Malta, Gaia Foundation, Light Pollution Awareness Group, the Ramblers Association and Nature Trust.

They said: "These incidents only show how certain people have no respect towards others and enjoy performing cowardly acts on people who dedicate their free time towards the environment and civil society."

The NGOs urged the authorities to intensify their work to catch the culprits so they may be given the punishment they deserve.

"Only this will show that we are living in a civilised country where law breakers will not be tolerated."

The NGOs stressed the need for environment wardens to be assigned to such sites "which are so vulnerable to vandalism" and for CCTV cameras to be immediately installed in all ecological and heritage sites.
