A common platform for voluntary organisations to work together on issues affecting children is being set up under the coordination of the Commissioner for Children, Carmen Zammit.

Ms Zammit said the platform was needed so that the NGOs could have a stronger, united voice on children's issue.

Such a platform would also consolidate resources and avoid duplication of effort.

She said the NGOs had a wealth of experience which they could share and project in a more forceful manner when they were united.

The platform has already grouped nine NGOs, including Inspire, Caritas and Gift of Life, and Ms Zammit said other organisations were welcome to join.

They will jointly tackle issues such as children's rights in the law courts and in schools.

"We have come together so that we can speak with one voice and strengthen the voice of children in society," Nathan Farrugia, CEO of Inspire said.
