More transparency is needed on the social impact assessment for the development of a Cottonera campus of the American University of Malta, Front Ħarsien ODZ said yesterday.

It also insisted that the government should not commit itself to the use of any ODZ land, whether in Cottonera or in Marsaskala, for the development of the university.

“Such a clear commitment to use already existing infrastructure and to exclude any development on ODZ and other protected areas, would send a clear message that the government is listening to civil society and thus would encourage participation in a positive exercise aimed at assessing the aspirations and concerns of local communities,” the front said.
