Members of Parliament were yesterday handed rocks with the message “better Żonqor, than only a memory of it”, in a symbolic action by Front Ħarsien ODZ.

This was a reminder to MPs not to abscond from their duty to safeguard Żonqor Point, in Marsascala, from development during Parliament's summer recess, the group said in a statement.

Żonqor is also the Maltese word for hardstone or flint.

The group was set up in reaction to a government announcement that it was planning a new university in Żonqor, Marsascala.

It also expressed its disappointment that the agreement between the government and Sadeen Construction Group, which is behind the university, has still not been published, confirming “the complete lack of transparency”.
