Almost 40 trees were stolen or destroyed in the past few weeks at  Ta’ Lambert near Xewkija and It-Taksis  near Qala, the Ministry for Gozo said.

The trees were planted last November and cost some €800 in all.

The trees had been planted as part of the  Sicily-Malta BIOgeographical Transboundary Insular Connectivity project which links the ecology of the two islands.

An information billboard was also stolen at Ta' Lambert.

The ministry condemned the thefts and said the trees will be replaced.
