Tottenham 1 Manchester United 3

Manchester United moved two points from the Barclays Premier League summit after condemning Tottenham to their first home defeat since August with a brutal display of clinical finishing.

Tottenham dominated large parts of the game but were lacking in creativity and when given the opportunities, United were simply devastating.

Spurs thought they had taken the lead when Louis Saha's shot flew in off Emmanuel Adebayor but referee Martin Atkinson ruled it out for a handball and from then on, the visitors put the home side to the sword with a display that showed exactly why they are firmly in the hunt for their 20th league title.

Newcastle 1 Sunderland 1

Shola Ameobi enhanced his reputation as a derby hero after coming off the bench to deny 10-man Sunderland with a dramatic equaliser.

The Nigerian-born striker stabbed home his seventh goal in the Tyne-Wear fixture a minute into injury-time to let leading scorer Demba Ba off the hook after he had seen an 83rd-minute penalty brilliantly saved by Simon Mignolet.

The Black Cats, who were reduced to 10 men when Stephane Sessegnon was dismissed after 58 minutes and had skipper Lee Cattermole sent off after the final whistle, had taken a 24th-minute lead.

Referee Mike Dean pointed to the spot for Mike Williamson's tug on Michael Turner's shirt and Nicklas Bendtner calmly slotted the penalty past Tim Krul.

Fulham 5 Wolves 0

Pavel Pogrebnyak's superb start to life at Fulham continued as he netted a hat-trick in today's 5-0 thrashing of struggling Wolves.

The Russia international was drafted in on transfer deadline day to fill the void left by Bobby Zamora's move to QPR, but few could have predicted the on-loan striker's impact.

Having scored in his previous two appearances, Pogrebnyak continued that form against Wolves today with a first-half double.
