Two major heritage sites will soon become more people-friendly after the planning authority approved two separate applications for visitor centres at St Paul’s Catacombs in Rabat and the prehistoric Ġgantija temples in Gozo.

The catacombs will have an interpretation centre, a children’s pavilion and a three-dimensional virtual room. Meanwhile, besides the visitor centre, the plan for Ġgantija is to have landscaping, a walking route with information panels and a car park.

Kenneth Gambin from Heritage Malta told the board the project’s design had been chosen in an international competition which looked for a structure that would have the smallest environmental impact.

Both projects were submitted by Heritage Malta.
