Millions of euros' worth of Libyan assets have been frozen in Malta in line with UN and EU sanctions, Finance Minister Tonio Fenech said in reply to a parliamentary question by Leo Brincat (PL).

He said that a unit had been set up specifically to monitor the freezing of the assets and take action as appropriate.

He declined to give an exact figure of the value of the frozen assets.

Mr Fenech also said that the government is closely following developments at Medavia airline in view of the fact that it is currently at a standstill because of the Libya crisis.

Answering a parliamentary question by Silvio Parnis (PL), Mr Fenech said the company had not requested any financial aid from Malta Enterprise.
