Work is about to start on overhauling the Valletta bus terminus as part of the public transport reform.

The Transport Ministry said this would be phase one of the project and construction works would start over the next couple of days.

As a result there will be some new traffic arrangements. Starting from today, buses will reach the Valletta terminus through St Anne Street and Nelson Avenue, which are normally the exit route.

The bus stop in Sarria Road, Floriana will be temporarily removed and commuters are to use the one in St Anne Street near the American Embassy.

Sarria Road, corner with Vinċenzo Buġeja Road up to Great Siege Road in Floriana, will be closed to traffic and vehicles will be diverted through St Anne Street or Sa Maison Hill, Pietà.

Although Mall Street in Floriana will remain open to traffic, cars will not be able to park there all the way up to the corner with Vinċenzo Buġeja Street and in the area around E.S. Tonna Square and Argotti Gardens in Floriana.

King Edward VII Avenue will remain open to traffic.

Access from St Anne Street to San Kalċidonju Square, where the Curia offices and police headquarters are found, will still be allowed through E.S. Tonna Square and Vinċenzo Buġeja Street in Floriana.

The public car park opposite the Granaries will remain open but the pavement along Great Siege Road, Floriana on the side of the petrol station will not be accessible to pedestrians.

The public is urged to use public transport when commuting to and from Valletta and Floriana.
