Revised tariffs for standard local mail will come into force as from April this year and are set to contribute positively to the sustainability of the Universal Service, MaltaPost said today in a company statement to the Malta Stock Exchange.

It follows an increase last November for domestic bulk letter mail, domestic and international registered mail and domestic and international printed papers only.

The Malta Communications Authority late last year said that after considering the requests made by MaltaPost, it believed that price increases in a number of universal services were necessary in order to safeguard the provision of such services.

"Also, the MCA deems that the revised postal tariffs will generally remain affordable to users and shall retain the current position of being amongst the lowest within the EU."

To this effect, the MCA accepted the following tariff revisions requested by MaltaPost as follows:
