A new organisation has been set up to promote and revive Sliema’s cultural heritage through a number of educational activities.
Called Sliema Heritage Society, the voluntary organisation aims to work with the local council and other organisations interested in protecting the locality’s heritage.
A statute has been drawn up and a provisional board set up with Guido Lanfranco as president, George Cilia as vice-president, Edward Said as secretary, Julian Galea as treasurer and Winston Zammit and Tony Terribile as members.
The organisation will be officially launched in January and is planning a line-up of lectures for the new year. Public lectures will be delivered about Sliema’s social, religious and architectural patrimony, the fortifications in the area and lost architectural landmarks there.
Those interested in taking part can call 2132 0520, write to the Sliema Heritage Society, 2, Don Rua Street, Sliema or send an e-mail to sliema.heritage.society@gmail.com.
