The 10th Malta Handball Association season begins on Saturday at the University Sports Hall when the Super Cup matches for both men and women will be played.

At 2 p.m. women's champions La Salle, who also claimed the KO last season, face Aloysians, the beaten finalists in the KO.

On paper, John Falzon's La Salle appear to be the stronger side but Aloysians will be pushing hard this time to claim one of the major honours.

The men's Super Cup final will start at 3.45 p.m. and will feature La Salle, double winners in 2003/04, and Kavallieri, runners-up in both competitions.

La Salle, despite losing Renzo Kerr Cumbo, who has been transferred to Salesians, start favourites to clinch their first trophy of the season in their bid to maintain their name as a dominant force in local handball as was the case last season.

On the other hand, Kavallieri will surely not be daunted by the uphill task facing the team.

Strengthened by the services of ex-Salesians player Orlando Bonnici, the team may be strong enough to start off the season with a pleasant surprise.

After this match, national team player Milos Stanisavljevic is expected to be officially awarded with the Sportsmanship Trophy.

The next handball competition will be the MHA Cup for both men and women. This begins on October 9.
