The first stone of the St Benedict College middle school in Kirkop, part of an €8 million project, was laid last week.

During excavation works, archaeological remains, including tombs dating to the Roman Period, were unearthed. The school’s plans were modified to protect and integrate the find into the project.

The government school will cater for children hailing from Żurrieq, Safi, Kirkop, Mqabba, Qrendi, Birżebbuġa and Għaxaq. It will cover an area of 3,600 square metres and will be three storeys high.
