After four age-group records were set early in November, three by Mark Sammut and one by Matthew Zammit (both IASIS), local swimmers kept up the trend on Saturday during the last swimming trials of this calendar year.
Zammit was again at the forefront with two new Group B marks established in the 50 free and 100 butterfly races. The 13-year-old swimmer clocked 28.12 in the one-lap race to improve on his own record of 28.68 registered in October, and then went on to clip 0.16 seconds off the 100 metres 'fly record when he stopped the watches on 1:09.18. The previous best, recorded three weeks ago, also belonged to this fast improving lad.
Talisa Pace made further avenues in her favourite event, the 100 free, when she covered the distance in 1:01.10.
Initially she looked disappointed, thinking that she had just missed the record, but was relieved to be told that her time was one-hundredth of a second faster than her old Group D mark set in June.
