Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi this evening warned parents to evaluate the latest modification announced by Labour Leader Alfred Sant about his reception class plan and said that if implemented, it will divide Maltese children into different categories - the fast runners attending private and church schools and the repeaters attending government schools.

Speaking during an activity in Kalkara's main square, Dr Gonzi referred to Dr Sant's declaration on TV last Monday that his reception class proposal will be adopted in government schools.

"I hope that parents realise that this will effectively mean a disadvantage for all those children who attend government schools. This will mean that children attending private and church schools will not have to repeat a year meaning that they will finish school earlier than their government educated schoolmates. They will enter post-secondary and university before those attending government schools. This will create an injustice and parents should not let Sant do this to their children,' Dr Gonzi said.

Calling the latest Sant declaration as another electoral blunder, Dr Gonzi said that during this campaign the MLP is proving to be a party of inconsistencies and surprises.

He said a Nationalist government would provide stability and consistency.
