Engine oil was splashed on a section of the Marsaxlokk promenade on Monday night, staining the newly-laid paving which formed part of the government’s €2 million embellishment project in the area.
A spokesman for the Resources Ministry said the perpetrators were unknown and it was still unclear whether this was an act of vandalism or an accident.
The police have been called in.
The Marsaxlokk local council is convinced vandals were behind the act and condemned it, urging the police to apprehend the culprits.
