Continental Cars Ltd launched the latest Porsche Boxster range earlier this month.

Managing director Maurice Mizzi said: "The Boxster was a winner right from the start and immediately established itself as the class leader."

Eight years down the line, the Porsche roadster, with its dynamic mid-engine concept, he added, "continues to impress those who have had the chance to drive this outstanding car, not least those who are lucky enough to own one".

The second-generation Boxster range comes "in a new, dynamic outfit" in terms of both looks and technical features, Mr Mizzi said. "The two models - the Boxster and the Boxster S - follow Porsche's usual process of steady, consistent evolution.

"Without being required or seeing any need to change the design and looks radically of the car, Porsche's designers have further refined the already well-balanced and harmonious design language of the former model."

The front of the Boxster incorporates the new headlight design. It has a new silhouette with even more muscular contour lines and larger wheels. And the rear end, with its new, ever more striking joints and seams, all look familiar but are cleaner, firmer and more functional in style than before.

The lightweight bodyshell is matched to a 2.7-litre 240 bhp (+12 bhp) engine in the Boxster and a 3.2-litre six-cylinder 280 bhp (+20 bhp) engine in the Boxster S. Maximum torque (pulling power) is up to 270 Nm and 320 Nm, respectively, at between 4,700 and 6,000 rpm.

These return acceleration (through a new six-speed gearbox) to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds and 5.5 seconds, respectively. Top speed is academic - 256 km/h and 268 km/h, respectively.

The suspension consists of a Porsche optimised McPherson design.

There is a spring strut axle and wheels suspended independently on transverse arms, longitudinal arms and spring struts, cylindrical springs with internal dampers and twin-sleeve gas pressure dampers.

The twin-circuit brake system has one circuit on the front, one circuit on the rear wheels, four-piston aluminium monobloc brake callipers, cross-drilled, inner-vented brake discs measuring 298 x 24 mm (Boxster) and 318 x 28 mm at the front and 299 x 20 mm (Boxster) and 299 x 24 mm at the rear, with a PSM 8.0, vacuum brake servo.

Overall length is 4,329 mm; width, 1,801; height, 1,295 mm; and wheelbase, 2,415 mm. More interestingly, the track has been increased by 24 mm and 35 mm, respectively to 1,490 mm and 1,486 mm, respectively.

"Nowadays people are expecting more when they buy a new car," Mr Mizzi said, "in terms of both reliability and performance. Porsche is living up to all these expectations.

"Porsche is also very conscious of its environmental responsibilities and all its vehicles meet the current legislation in this regard."

Continental Cars' Audi and Porsche showroom is being moved to temporary premises in Mosta Road, Lija, from this week to enable its current premises in Testaferrata Street, Msida, to be demolished in the second phase of the project to rebuild the premises.

The project involves the building of state-of-the-art premises for the two car marques and new workshops to enable Continental Cars to deliver the services their clients expect.
