Four brand-new patrol boats for the Armed Forces of Malta arrived in Malta from Australia on a cargo ship last Thursday. The inshore patrol vessels were built by Austal shipyard to AFM specifications. The boats are equipped with 12.7mm main machine guns, two 7.6mm light machine guns as well as fire-fighting and rescue equipment. The boats, costing €9.3 million have been partly financed by the EU. The one-month voyage was co-ordinated by Amsterdam based bulk carriers Spliethoff and their local agents Ocean and Sky Logistics Ltd of Marsa. The six-hour hauling operation was under the supervision of Ocean and Sky operation director Kurt Camilleri.
