Mgr Jimmy Xerri has been appointed parish priest of Nadur.

For a number of years he was parish priest and seminary rector in the state of Alogoar, Brazil.

Mgr Xerri was born in New South Wales, Australia. Son of Gesulada and the late Frank, he resettled in Gozo and was ordained priest on June 27, 1981. He proceeded to the University of St Thomas in Rome, where he graduated in philosophy.

He lectured philosophy at the Sacred Heart Seminary, directed St Joseph Home for four years, and, for eight years, was secretary to Bishop Nikol Cauchi.

Mgr Xerri is the author of several books in Maltese and Portuguese.
