Five new officials were approved on the Malta Basketball Association Executive Committee yesterday.

Vacancies had arisen following the resignation of four former officials and the introduction of a new post, that of a second vice-president, at the end of an extraordinary general meeting last week.

After Saturday’s deadline for nominations, five candidates had put their name forward, the exact number required to fill the void at the ruling body of Maltese basketball. So, the new candidates only required the approval of club delegates and officials during yesterday’s meet.

Jean-Paul Sammut is the new secretary while Trevor Degiorgio will act as deputy president. David Agius and David Schembri will serve as vice-presidents while Joe Muscat is the new treasurer.

Meanwhile, the men’s national league resumed yesterday evening after an almost four-week break in competitions when Siġġiewi beat Depiro 75-69. This was the first of two meetings between the two clubs this week as they will again play each other on Sunday in a preliminary round match from the BOV KO competition.

The Men’s Division One match between Luxol and Loyola, originally scheduled for tomorrow, has been postponed to a later date.
