Raiffeisen Malta Bank plc recently appointed Anthony Schembri and Christoph Rattasits managing directors.

Mr Schembri, of 42, of Mosta, residing in Sliema, was born in the UK. He acquired the warrant of accountant in 1991 and graduated with a Master's degree in Financial Services from the University of Malta in 2000. He has been employed with the bank since 1997 and previously occupied the position of general manager and company secretary.

He started his career at Bank of Valletta and joined Raiffeisen Malta Bank after occupying the post of head of finance at Fimbank and chief accountant at Melita Bank International. Mr Schembri is reading Ph.D. in banking and finance at the University of Malta. He is married to Mariella née Abela and has two children, Rebecca and Patrick.

Mr Rattasits, 43, was born in Vienna. After graduating with a Master's degree in Social and Economic Studies from Vienna University of Economics and Business in 1994, he started his banking career with Creditanstalt-Bankverein, at the time a leading Austrian bank.

Following a posting as account manager for corporate clients, Mr Rattasits worked as a credit risk manager in the bank's International Credit Department from 1997. In 2000 he moved on to Raiffeisen Zentralbank Österreich AG, where he was initially employed as senior account manager for multinational clients.

In 2003 Mr Rattasits was assigned to Raiffeisen Malta Bank as head of international banking. He is responsible for promoting business for the bank. Mr Rattasits is married to Gerlinde née Kaas and has three children, Maria-Theresia, Clemens and Laurenz.

The other board members of RBMT are Patrick Galea (chairman), Thomas Schreder, Werner Kaltenbrunner and Alexander Gollcher.

Raiffeisen Malta Bank was set up in November 1996 and is a fully-owned subsidiary of Raiffeisen Zentralbank Österreich AG, based in Vienna.

In 2005, after the accession of Malta to the EU, the bank was granted a full banking licence and expanded its cross-border activities further. RBMT's total assets as at December 31, 2009 were €2.7 billion and net profit after tax of €53.7 million. The bank employs 14 people.

RZB Group is Austria's third largest bank in terms of assets and a top player in corporate and transaction banking in central and eastern Europe. It is the central institution and product provider to Raiffeisen Banking Group in Austria. Preliminary 2009 results for RZB Group show a net profit before tax of €824 million (up 38 per cent from the previous year) and total assets of €147.9 billion. RZB Group's credit rating by Standard and Poor's is A/Negative/A1 and A1/Stable/P1 by Moody's.
