Donatella Frendo Dimech has been sworn-in as magistrate this afternoon.

The former deputy Attorney General joined the Maltese Attorney General’s Office as a prosecutor in 1997.

Her primary responsibility was for international cooperation in criminal matters including extraditions and investigations into money laundering and cross-border crime. She was appointed counsel to the Republic in 1999 and senior counsel to the Republic in 2004.

Dr Frendo Dimech was responsible for drafting the legislation implementing Malta’s EU and other international obligations as well as the negotiation of Treaties and Agreements in this field.

In October 2014, she was elected to the Bureau of the Conference of the Parties to the Council of Europe’s Convention on laundering, search, seizure and confiscation of the proceeds from crime and on the financing of terrorism.

She was appointed deputy Attorney General in 2012.
