The Kunsill Malti għall-Isport (KMS) this week launched the KMS Sports Awards.
This event will not only recognise the feats and achievements of local sportsmen/women but also their contribution to promote the true values of the physical activities they practise.
In a statement, Bernard Vassallo, KMS chairman, said the winners of the KMS Sports Awards will be announced during a presentations night at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta, on January 16.
He said his organisation is doing its utmost to spread sport, competitive or otherwise, to all quarters of the Maltese society. In fact, the KMS Sports Awards will be open to all sporting disciplines.
"Our main concept is to see more people involved in physical activity," Vassallo said.
"We have to make sport accessible to all in this country but, on the other hand, KMS's other priority is to upgrade the level of Maltese sport and that covers both the technical and administrative aspects.
"The idea behind the KMS Sports Awards is very simple... we want to see that those who manifest the true sporting spirit and love of their sport, be they athletes or officials, are rewarded for the services they offer and the inspiration they give to others."
KMS said they have reached an agreement with PBS to broadcast the prize-giving ceremony live on TVM.
