Dr Lorraine Schembri Orland is to be appointed a judge, and Dr Natasha Galea Sciberras will become a Magistrate.the government announced today.

Born in 1959, Dr Schembri Orland graduated a lawyer in 1981 and specialised in European Law and in family law.

She was involved in legislative reform and was a member of a consultative committee which advised the Cabinet on amendments to the civil law.

She was also heavily involved in legislation against domestic violence and was the first woman elected to the committee of the Chamber of Advocates.

Dr Schembri Orland served as president of the National Council of Women, a member of the consultative council on bioethics and a member of the Caritas Malta management board for San Blas Rehabilitation Centre.

She is married to George. They have a son, Kevin.

The Cabinet also approved the appointment of Dr Natasha Galea Sciberras as Magisrate.

Born in 1976, she graduated in 2003 and has worked in the family and civil courts. She was also legal adviser of Appogg Agency and Transport Malta and chaired the Adoptions Board.

Dr Galea Scieberras is married to Dr. Vincent Galea. They have five children.
