Fr Patrick Magro SJ has been appointed Jesuit provincial. He will take over from Fr Paul Pace SJ on July 31.

Fr Patrick’s life as a Jesuit started in 1989, when he entered the Society of Jesus as a novice in Genoa. This was followed by a year with the Jesuit Community in Tal-Qroqq, and two years studying philosophy in Padova, Italy. After a further two years spent teaching maths and science at St Aloysius’ College, as well as being prefect of discipline there, Fr Patrick read theology for three years in Madrid, followed by a licentiate in pastoral theology and masters in education both at Boston College.

He was ordained a priest on June 23, 2000, and was Rector of St Aloysius’ College for 10 years from 2003.

He has also worked as chaplain at the University and spent eight months in Columbia doing parish work among the poor communities there.

Fr Patrick will remain at the University Chaplaincy for the coming months.
