The new year brought new faces to the EU Help Desk of the Malta Business Bureau (MBB) - the EU arm of the Malta Federation of Industry and the Malta Chamber of Commerce.

Dr Gabriella Pace, LL.D., M.Jur. (EU Law), LL.M. (Bruges) now heads the EU Help Desk, which had been manned by Simon Lee Barberi throughout its five years of operation.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Barberi for his dedication and commitment in these past years, which no doubt facilitated the EU Help Desk to reach its current reputable status, and to wish him success in his new career.

Dr Pace in her new role as senior policy officer is being assisted by another new recruit, Omar Cutajar, who was appointed junior policy officer.

During the coming week, the EU Help Desk is launching its first initiative of the year relating to Customs issues, which will soon be made available to members within a new section on the MBB Website (www.mbb.org.mt).

In conjunction with the Customs Department, the MBB Website will be featuring the series of Customs Information Sheets entitled "Preparing for Membership", which were being distributed to all FOI members registered for these updates.

In practice these are a summary of the various guidelines readers can access through the Customs Website. These serve as a reader-friendly introduction to particular topics that could be explored further by reading the respective guidelines.

For ease of reference, the MBB is making these different documents available in this new section of the MBB Website, in the conviction that many members will find the guidelines and information sheets of great assistance to their operations.

Also to be available on this Website will be a number of other useful documents, such as the Community Customs Code, the EC Regulation implementing the Community Customs Code, a Customs Guide, a Compliance Checklist and frequently asked Customs-related questions.

Moreover, FOI members registered to receive Customs information sheets will also receive the series of Customs-related question and answer series of articles through the normal FOI channels of distribution.
