The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Malta section has a new council made up of Carl J. Debono (chairman), Anton Cutajar (vice-chairman), Keith Sacco (secretary), and Saviour Zammit (treasurer).

The other council members are Charles Sammut, Dunstan Briffa, Denis Vella, Simon Fabri, Violet Bugeja and Ing. Marvin Bugeja.

The IEEE Malta section forms part of the IEEE region covering Europe, Africa and part of Asia. The IEEE is the world's leading professional association for engineers, scientists and students involved in electrical, electronics, ICT and other related fields. It also functions as a publishing house and standards-making body.

The IEEE has more than 374,000 members, including 87,000 students, in over 150 countries. There are 311 sections including Malta, and each year more than 300 conferences are organised worldwide. To date, there are about 900 active IEEE standards and more than 400 in development.
