A new civic centre is being built at Triq J.G. Chambrai in Ghajnsielem.

It will incorporate a police station and a health centre.

The works were visited by the Parliamentary Secretary for Public Consultation Chris Said who said that councils had to give the best service to residents and for this it was important that a council had a place from where to operate and for its offices to be a one stop shop for residents.

The Ghajnsielem centre will be accessible to all in line with the principles of councils’ renewal. The council will be installing photovoltaic panels on the centre’s roof to make use of cleaner energy.

Dr Said said that 44 localities last year benefited from special funds for efficient energy.

The scheme, to be reintroduced this year, encouraged councils to use alternative energy through the installation of solar and photovoltaic panels, energy saving lights in streets and public places and other similar initiatives.
