Mr Michael Gonzi has been appointed Acting Chief Executive of the Lotteries and Gaming Authority, taking over from Mario Galea, who has resigned.

The Finance Ministry said the appointment is with immediate effect.

The ministry said the Lotteries and Gaming Authority grew over the years, in line with the successful expansion of the gaming industry in Malta.

"It has recently embarked on a strategic change programme intended to strengthen Malta’s regulatory regime, making it the quality jurisdiction that both consumers and investors in the industry expect."

(Michael Gonzi and Mario Galea should not be confused with their namesakes serving in parliament)
