A mobile App will be released in the coming two weeks which will provide real-time updates for passengers, Malta Public Transport announced this morning.

The App will update users on the nearest bus stops available and detail the arrival time of the next bus. It will also allow people to top up their Tallinja card and will include a journey planner.

Details were given during a press briefing by Transport Malta general manger Konrad Pule and international director Julio Tironi.

They stressed that the operator will continue "optimising" the route network between April and June, despite the recent changes made.

By June, the company will be adding 33 new buses to the fleet, which they pointed out was beyond the contract that Autobuses de Leon had signed with the government.

The number of passengers using public transport in January and February was eight per cent higher than the same period last year.
