Synergene has appointed Kevin Camilleri as director of the group's Strategic Business Unit. Previously, he held the post of general manager within Synergene Technologies Ltd.

A multi-lingual graduate from the University of Bath, UK, Mr Camilleri is a former business consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he was involved in a number of projects, including strategic planning, business modelling, feasibility studies, valuations and business recovery.

He was one of Synergene's founding employees and was involved heavily in its development. Mr Camilleri was recently involved in a number of projects, including the setting up of Synergene Profiling Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary specialising in providing DNA profiling and forensic services.

He recently returned from a successful trip to Belgium, where he finalised the setting up of GENDIA, an international network of closely collaborating laboratories from the USA, UK, Germany, Italy, Canada, The Netherlands, Malta, Switzerland and Belgium offering the world's most extensive list of genetic disease testing services.

In his new role Mr Camilleri will be operating within the Strategic Business Unit, whose function is to develop and manage new projects and strategic alliances. The new role also involves assisting the group CEO in international capital-raising efforts as well as in the preparations for the listing of the company on an international stock exchange.

Synergene is currently undergoing an organisational restructuring programme in line with its current expansion plans.
