Giovanni Bartolotta has been appointed chief risk officer at APS Bank, taking overall responsibility for leading the bank’s risk and compliance functions both of which have seen significant development in recent years.
Bartolotta, an Italian national, graduated in economics from Milan’s Bocconi University in 1992 and subsequently attended the credit management programme at Chase Manhattan Bank in New York. He worked for Banca Akros in Milan between 1992-1994, then moved to London where he successively worked for major investment banks Kleinwort Benson (1994-1996), JP Morgan Chase (1996-2001) and Bear Stearns (2001-2004), developing his skills in M&A, capital markets, credit and risk analysis.
In 2004 he joined Fimbank plc in Malta, helping to develop its global footprint and overseeing the risk management of the group’s various international subsidiaries. His last position at Fimbank was that of executive vice president and global head of risk.
“We are proud to have engaged the services of Giovanni, a seasoned banker with extensive knowledge and experience of risk management. He comes with an impressive career track but, above all, a deep understanding of the risk challenges of a modern banking organisation and of the strategies to address them,” said APS Bank’s CEO Marcel Cassar.
