Duran Duran will be performing live at the Luxol Grounds on July 26.

Renowned for hits like Wild Boys, Rio, Come Undone and Girls On Film, the band is being brought to Malta by NnG Promotions, which have been responsible for such large-scale concerts as those by Bryan Adams, Elton John and Roger Waters.

The group will be in Malta as part of its Red Carpet Massacre World Tour, which kicked off in April in Canada and will hit Europe on June 18. The 30-date European run, promoting the album Red Carpet Massacre, will begin in Brussels and end in early August on the Mediterranean coast.

With the exception of guitarist Andy Taylor, Duran Duran have resorted to the original line-up with Simon Le Bon, John Taylor, Nick Rhodes and Roger Taylor.

NnG Promotions director Nigel Camilleri said the concert will take the form of the Bryan Adams concert with, more or less, the same set-up. There will be a section for VIPs, a general standing area and a seated area about 50 metres from the stage. Tickets cost €45 (Lm19.32) for the general standing area and €90 (Lm38.64) for the VIP and seated areas.

Dr Camilleri said there is a market for people wanting to watch and hear Duran Duran performing live in Malta.

The band's career has been something of a roller-coaster, rocketing from underground British post-punk sensations to teen idols in the 1980s. But their fall from grace was equally fast as the group's line-up fragmented and the hits dried up before the original line-up got back together in the 1990s.

Since the 1980s they have notched up 21 singles in the billboard chart and 30 in the Top 40 UK singles charts, winning two Grammy Awards in the process. They have sold more than 75 million albums.

Dr Camilleri said that during the concert they will be playing new songs as well as a run-through of their greatest hits.

The event is being sponsored by Vodafone and Coca Cola. Vodafone's Joseph Cuschieri said the company is happy to continue strengthening its partnership with NnG promotions by sponsoring such events. Vodafone is offering clients a 22 per cent discount on the ticket price for all areas.

Davinia Pulè, from General Soft Drinks, said that after last year's Coke Music event, Coca Cola in Malta will soon launch another campaign: Message in a Bottle. The campaign starts on June 1. She said Coca Cola is synonymous with music and will be offering 800 VIP tickets to clients.
