The opposition spokesman for tourism has urged the government to promote new transport services between the airport and all zones in Malta and Gozo.

Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca was reacting to the introduction of a service by MIA between the airport and some hotels.

She welcomed the new service and said it should be extended to all tourist areas, such as Bugibba and Gozo. Indeed, the government should be prepared to participate directly in such initiatives particularly in this time of crisis.

The Labour spokesman also welcomed the introduction of more services to Malta by low-cost airlines and said the government should also provide all necessary support to enable Air Malta to maintain and extend its markets.

The Labour MP referred to remarks by Parliamentary Secretary Mario de Marco that Malta should focus on aspects which made it unique, rather than copying others, saying those were arguments which the opposition had long been making.

However, those characteristics which made Malta unique needed to be given more attention by the government, rather than be reduced to a dilapidated state.
