The low cost airline Jet2 will be embarking on flights to and from Malta next year, Tourism Minister Edward Zammit Lewis said.

Speaking during the presentation of Blue Flag Awards, he said Jet2.com and Jet2 Holidays operated form several airports in the Midlands and northern UK and specialised in package holidays.

Jet2.com has a fleet of 52 aircraft, employed more than 3,000 people and has carried more then 30 million people in 65 destinations.

He also said that Norwegian, the Norwegian airline, would be establishing its base in Madrid and embarking on weekly flights to Malta as from July 5.
