Nestlé Malta recently hosted a seminar to communicate a number of studies supporting the benefits of whole grain.

Yvette Sciberras, a medical delegate at Nestlé Malta and a qualified pharmacist, explained how studies find that whole grain intake is protective against cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity. Potential mechanisms for this protection are diverse since wholegrain is rich in nutrients and phytochemicals. Additionally there appears to be a synergy among the wide range of protective compounds in wholegrain.

Ms Sciberras described the intrinsic properties of wholegrain and the health benefits that wholegrain provides if consumed on regular basis. She also outlined other benefits related to weight management while discussing the existing direct correlation between people who eat wholegrain in a balanced diet and the tendency for them not only to lose weight but also to manage their weight better.

Eating a nutritious breakfast helps refuel the body and brain with energy and nutrients after a night's sleep. Research shows that essential nutrients missed at breakfast are not compensated for during the other meals of the day, and hence people who consume breakfast tend to perform better during the day. Dietary recommendations suggest an intake of at least three whole grain servings a day. A 30g serving of Nestlé Fitness cereal for breakfast constitutes one serving of whole grain.
