Nestlé says it has invested over €154 million in environmental sustainability programmes and initiatives to identify and implement projects geared towards constantly reducing its impact on our planet's environment.

Everybody - policy makers, industry, agriculture and consumers - can make a difference and help to improve our planet's health. Indeed, Nestlé is well aware that the environmental situation is a critical one and aims through its policies and investment, as well as through a series of actions to be one of the leaders in this regard.

The said projects include measures aimed at reducing the use of water, non-renewable energy and other natural resources, as well as working hard to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases, to eliminate waste and improve the environmental performance of its packaging. What's more, Nestlé also works alongside its suppliers all over the world to promote more sustainable practices in its supply chain. "Nestlé's ambition is to produce tasty and nutritious food and beverages that also have the lowest environmental footprint, so we strive to continuously improve our operational efficiency and environmental performance," said a Nestlé spokesperson.

In order to optimise the environmental performance of its products, Nestlé has adopted a life-cycle approach, which enables it to better assess the impacts of its own operations and those associated with the wider value chain.

In simple terms, when considering the environmental performance of any of its products, Nestlé systematically assesses product categories, literally, from farm to fork and beyond, thereby contributing to a better future and creating shared value to both Nestlé and society.

This approach and Nestlé's investment in related research and development, has resulted in continued improvements in Nestlé's water consumption and CO2 emissions performance through reduced energy consumption following operational energy efficiency measures and a move towards renewable energy sources, over last year.
