Nestlé said today that while it had received no complaints in Malta about breakage of Nescafé jars, its product recall was continuing and it wished to remind consumers to call Nestlé Customer Care Centre Freephone number 8007 2209 for further information and to organise replacement.

The company said on Thursday that it was conducting a voluntary recall of Nescafé Alta Rica, Cap Colombie, Suraya and Espresso soluble coffee range.

The recall is being made since some of these jars may be susceptible to breakage during the delivery process to customers and consequently may contain small pieces of glass which consumers migħt not see because of the black plastic sleeve on the jar.

"No complaints have ever been received in Malta for this potential problem, nor have there been any warehouses breakages, but because the safety of our consumers is our overwhelming priority we have voluntarily chosen to recall these speciality products to fully eliminate any risk."

The company said it has received 75 phone calls in Malta and a number of visits to the Nestlé Customer Care Centre and all these queries are being resolved to the consumers' satisfaction. None of these consumers reported glass breakage and all of the jars were received intact, the company said.

Retailers stocking the products were all asked to remove them from their shelves and these are being collected from their warehouses.

Only the 100g jars of Nescafé Alta Rica, Cap Colombie, Suraya and Espresso are potentially affected.

All other sizes and ranges are not affected.
