Bayern Munich’s director of sport Christian Nerlinger believes his club are poised to emulate their success of last season.
Bayern won the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal as well as reaching the final of the Champions League and Nerlinger is confident they can do it all again next season.
“I see us as the top favourites for the league and the cup and we are one of the top favourites as far as the Champions League is concerned,” he said at the club’s training camp in northern Italy.
While Bayern have not added to their squad so far this summer, Nerlinger believes the return of midfielder Toni Kroos after spending most of the last two seasons on loan at Bayer Leverkusen is a big boost.
“With his return, we have an absolute top player back with us. We have high hopes in him,” admitted Nerlinger, who also welcomed the promotion of David Alaba and Diego Contento from the youth team after they took their first steps in professional football towards the end of last season.
