Leonard Zammit, of Sliema, writes:

The president of the ASA who, over the years, championed for the foreign waterpolo player to be allowed in our domestic league recently tried to clarify a report in your paper that Neptunes Vodafone were not allowed to make use of new players.

He alleged that the reporter relied on what seemed to be 'one-sided information'. Conveniently, he overlooked the fact that the information given in the report was from official sources (not club sources), which are definitely not one-sided.

The explanation the president tried to make is all factual but somehow what was written down in the minutes when the draft version of the rules of the foreign players was made, the spirit of the intended introduction of foreigners, was not adhered to and the president himself agreed with me when I approached him about the subject that something went amiss when the minutes of that meeting were worded.

I am at a loss why the president did not stamp out his authority on the matter and insist that there was a glaring administrative lapsus which mysteriously skipped the attention of one and all, when the matter was brought up again for discussion. The matter could have easily been rectified there and then.

I suspect that the ASA president may be obsessed by the fact that he has a Neptunes background and as a consequence is always striving to display his unbias, in so doing, to the detriment of the Balluta Bay team.

Referring to the Competition Rules, how can one be satisfied that these were adhered to when Sirens played San Ġiljan on Saturday making use of another foreigner who was not registered as per regulation 2.5 b) i, i.e. at least four days prior to the start of the competition?

Moreso, in the president's words, "it could not at this stage change the rule since amendments to competition regulations are prohibited once the competition has begun" and he trusted that he has clarified the matter further.

Not only has the matter not been clarified further, now, but by what has taken place over the past week the ball is definitely and firmly in the ASA court.
