We have been renting the same flat for nearly two years. In that time we have been hassled by neighbours to our left, a one parent-family with two girls and a boy.

They were very noisy all times of day and night, radio played loud, doors banging, leaving hall and stairs dirty, etc. I spoke to the landlord and at first he didn’t want to know – you have to go to the police, he told us. No help then.

After non-payment of rent they were evicted. We were then on our own in the block of flats. The next thing to go wrong was the intercom. This took a month to rectify with no help again.

This next one is the final straw. The landlord has rented an apartment to three youths below us who are working in Malta on a contract (I think). They come in at all times of day and night and park in front of our garage which has signs saying “no parking, garage used day and night”. I need this to get to the car at any time for various reasons. Again, no help from the landlord – fetch the police, it’s a civil matter, we were told.

When the police came our new neighbours went out or just ignored the ringing bell. So what do they do now? They ring our bell day or night, bang doors, dirty hall and stairs, make noise on the roof. And we have now got them both below and above us. No help...

Fetch the police. That’s a laugh. What are we to do to get our peace and quiet back?
