With regard to my letter (November 22) regarding public amenities in the Tigné, Sliema, Balluta, Spinola, Paceville 'region', I did not ask for the title 'Balluta Square' to be inserted above my letter, which was self-explanatory.

In fact, as Alexander Pace Gouder (November 29), and undoubtedly others pinpointed, it is another square that is encumbered by commercial outlets, which has not yet had the fortune of being cleared up like Sliema's St Anne Square has.

My point is that in inclement weather the public needs sheltered outdoor spaces to sit on benches and not have to submit to be fleeced for a cappuccino, a mere sandwich or a light snack.

After all, unlike those Eurocrats who have just had their salaries increased by thousands of euros, most of us have only had a cost-of-living increase of less than €6 a week.

Since the proposed car park at Tigné is not going to materialise, will this be foisted on Balluta, further along this seafront, to serve all those who wish to come in their cars to walk on the promenade or visit nearby outlets?

Also, is it right for a large amount of the funds given to Mepa by Paceville outlets to be set aside for parking, to be used to finance a car park in another neighbourhood which some say is destined to be turned into a second Paceville?
