The Naxxar council is objecting to the holding of fairs at the former Naxxar trade fair grounds.

Members of the Trade Fairs Exhibitors Association have formed a company and entered into a five-year lease agreement with Scicluna Estates, the owners of the grounds of the former Naxxar trade fair, to use the place for events, including fairs.

The council said this morning it was not consulted or informed of the plans at any time. It said the new company did not take any consideration of the impact of its plans on residents.

The council said it was known that the impact of fairs on Naxxar was negative and many left the locality because of the inconvenience they had to suffer.

Such inconveniences included traffic congestions, parking problems and pollution.

This was even acknowledged by Mepa in the Local Plan for the centre of the island and in the revised Ta’ Qali action plan.
