Nature Trust (Malta) has called on all political parties to strongly consider and include environmental issues in the electoral programmes.
“The Maltese islands strongly need a political agenda for the environment. More attention needs to be given to land use, sustainable development, law enforcement and nature protection,” the NGO said.
It said that some issues had been addressed, “however we are still a long way to achieving high environmental standards which our island deserves”.
Nature Trust said electoral programmes should take into account issues such as climate change, over-fishing, over-development and natural resources, sustainability and good planning practices.
