The Nationalist Party is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Independence Day with a number of activities between September 16 and 19.

Most of the activities will be held on the Granaries in Floriana.

Party general secretary Chris Said said celebrations are being held earlier than usual in a sense of national unity since the importance of the day was now being recognised by the whole country.

On Independence Day proper, September 21, a reception will be held at Independence Gardens in Sliema. It will be attended by party leader Simon Busuttil.

Political debates will be held every evening between September 16 and 18 on the Granaries, where Dr Busuttil will address a mass meeting on September 19.

Other activites will include children’s zones and musical entertainment, including the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza and the Queen Tribute Band QEII. There will also be a number of sport events, blood donations, a healthy living corner and talks on a healthy lifestyle.

Independence Day will be celebrated in Gozo on September 14.

The activities will be self financing.
