John E. Sullivan, in his letter Cabinet Appointments (February 19) wrote about the (alleged) disgruntlement expressed on different occasions by some Nationalist Party backbenchers.
One only hopes that there is no premeditated strategy being carried out by a circle of parliamentarians with the undeclared aim of causing instability in the government and prompting the Prime Minister to call an early general election.
MPs should always be loyal to voters, to the party leader and to the party they represent and, in case any intend to run for party leadership, they should put their cards on the table and have the decency to publicly declare their intentions.
To my mind it would be treacherous for anyone to undermine the party administration and the party leadership from within, perhaps over some appointment not received, which might result in inducing the party leader to rush towards a possible electoral defeat and have him humiliated or even removed.
