6.42pm Update with Speaker Anglu Farrugia's condemnation

MP Kristy Debono's car, as well as that of her husband Jean Pierre, a Nationalist Party official, were vandalised last night.

In a post on Facebook, the Nationalist MP said the cars were "deliberately targeted and vandalised". She said that broken glass was also splattered on her baby's car seat.

Nothing could be gained from such attacks she said, adding that such attacks pushed her to keep working and fighting in what she believed in.

When contacted, Ms Debono said both cars, which were parked some 50 metres away from each other, were vandalised at around midnight. The other parked cars were untouched.

Ms Debono said she had not received any recent threats. However, this week she openly voiced her objection to the controversial Wied Ghomor project, which was turned down by the planning authority.

In a statement, the Labour Party said it unreservedly condemned the cowardly act, slightly more than a week after another attack on Minister Michael Farrugia's property. It appealed to the authorities to continue to take such cases seriously.

The PN also condemned the attack. "Whatever the reason behind the attack, the PN insists that nobody in politics should stop talking and acting on behalf of her constituents," it said.

Parliamentary speaker Anglu Farrugia also issued a statement condemning the vandalism. He hoped police investigations would identify the culprits.
