Energy costs to heat the water at the Tal-Qroqq national pool will drop by two thirds thanks to an EU-funded project inaugurated this morning.

The €400,000 investment introduced more energy efficient pumps and boilers as well as pool covers to limit heat losses and evaporation when the facility is not in use.

Parliamentary Secretary for Sports Chris Agius said that other projects in the pipeline were an indoor pool as part of an extension to the Cottonera Sports Complex .

He also referred to a public consultation exercise due to start in the coming days for more sustainable sports facilities through their commercialisation.
