James Bonello Ghio confirmed his high ranking in the Hi-Tec National League after retaining top spot for the third round in a row. In a close encounter, he beat Steve Rizzo 3-2 and 11-10 in the fifth set to claim the honours.

Theresa Camilleri was a close second after another great round in which she had the better of some of the top male players around.

In the second division, Robert Sultana was in great form as he swept past his opponents with relative ease. Sultana secured promotion to the top flight together with Chris Stahl, considered one of the world's best players in the over 65 category.

Charles Mifsud and Malcolm Crabbe have moved up to the second division.

Worthy of a mention are young John Cuschieri, who retained his place in the third division after another impressive round, along with Liz Said and Kate Borg who both won all their games in their respective categories.
