A 21-year-old motorcyclist was killed after he was involved in a horrific collision with a truck on Thursday morning.

The accident occurred at 10.15am opposite the Water Services Corporation offices on Qormi Street in Luqa.

The victim, Nolan Farrugia from Siggiewi, an engineering student, was involved in a collision with a truck driven by a 56-year-old man from Għaxaq.

The road - from the roundabout near Express Trailers to the Lidl roundabout - was closed in both directions. The police urged drivers to seek alternative routes until the investigations were carried out.

Vecchia Napoli at Skyparks in Luqa, where the victim worked as a part-time waiter, closed its doors to patrons as a sign of respect.

Kitchen Concepts managing director Julian Sammut told Times of Malta: “He was here yesterday. Such a lovely guy. We’re all pretty shattered here. He’s worked for us since we opened about four years ago. It’s a sad day for us too. We definitely want to commemorate him in one way or another. We will involve his colleagues here to remember him in a special way."
